Va ser MI el 1980 i GM el 1983
Guanyador del Campionat de Iugoslàvia el 1980 i 1984
Mentre jugava el torneig deBuenos Aires de1992 (on va finalitzar segon), la guerra civil va irrompre al seu país natal i durant cert temps es va mudar a Holanda, juntament amb el bosnià Ivan Sokolov.
Va guanyar a Wijk aan Zee el 1994 i el Campionat d'Holanda el 1997 i 1999.
El 2004 va empatar en el primer lloc amb Ivanchuk en el Campionat d'Europa.

Actualment ha tornat a casa a Bòsnia i Hercegovina

Born in Bosanski Samac in 1960
Awarded the IM title in 1980 and the GM title in 1983.
He won the Yugoslav Championship in 1980 and 1984.
In 1993 whilst playing in Argentina civil war broke out in Yugoslavia and for a while Nikolic was domiciled in Holland along with Ivan Sokolov.
He won Wijk aan Zee in 1994 and was Dutch champion in 1997 and 1999.
In 2004 he tied for first place at the European Championship with Vassily Ivanchuk. Bosnian champion in 2007.
He is back home now in Bosnia and Herzegovina, one of the states that made up the former Yugoslavia.
